National Electrical Safety Month

May is National Electrical Safety Month.

We would like to share some information on a common electrical accident that occurs every day in the US. It’s called Arc Flash. It occurs during abnormal conditions of electrical equipment. It creates a dangerous, high temperature explosion due to faulty conditions, or failing equipment.

A person with improper arc flash protection can be seriously injured as current can escape the conductors and travel across dusty or moist air to reach the nearby person. Arc flash can vaporize the surrounding metal, set fires, or create deafeningly loud noises. Before working on any energized equipment, it is important to have the proper PPE. 80% of all injuries related to electricity are a result of arc flash incidents. To protect yourself from arc flash incidents, it is important to wear the proper PPE, such as rubberized clothing/suits.
