Princeton Senior Living Apartments

Project Update: Princeton Senior Living Apartments construction is coming along! We love these visits because we are able to see our work being done. This 4-story, 80 apartment building is designed to meet NJHMFA tax credit funding, DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes, Enterprise Green Communities, and ENERGY STAR threshold requirements.

Thanks to our partners at WRT, PIRHL, and Ingerman.

HELP VI – 2023 Preservation Achievement Award

Congratulations to all who worked on the HELP VI project in North Philadelphia for winning a Preservation Achievement Award! We helped restore a building in North Philly to make housing for low-income seniors and homeless veterans. The building also includes a community room, fitness area, library, doctor offices and waiting room. We are proud to work with some great partners @Kramer+Marks Architects, @Domus Inc, @HELP USA, as this is our 5th project working together on these homes.

PE Exam with Plumbing Portion

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Plumbing engineers want to earn their professional engineering license status. The link below has information on the NCEES survey to create a plumbing section for professional engineers’ licensure.

With increased storm activity, legionella bacteria in the news, drinking water issues and droughts all around us, isn’t it time to elevate the profession?

Frankford House

Project Update: Progress being made at the Frankford House in the Kensington section of Philadelphia. When completed this summer, the Frankford House will provide 42 affordable apartment units for seniors along with various amenities for the residents. Thanks to Domus for providing us with the pictures!

Giant Jenga Event

Our team had a great time at ACE Mentor Program of Greater Philadelphia last week! They lost in round 4, but that was better than last year, so we’ll take it. It’s always fun catching up with peers in the industry, as well as supporting a great cause. ACE Greater Philadelphia raised nearly $50,000 to support the students in their program!

National Engineers Week: Creating for the Future

The 2023 theme for Engineers Week is Creating for the Future. We want to encourage you to get involved with the younger generation to show them how engineers make a difference in our world.

You can start with your own families! Reach out to your children’s school and ask about their programs. Here are some examples of how our own employees got involved: Rafael volunteered for story time, at his child’s school, and read a children’s engineering book. Mike runs FIRST Robotics teams with his children and friends and ran a science day and STEM night at his children’s schools. Keith hosts a yearly bring your child to work day in our office and the children love it!

If you don’t have children and are looking for other opportunities to help, here are some organizations MEA has supported in the past. Happy Engineers Week!

Happy Engineers Week! Founded by the National Society of Professional Engineers in 1951, Engineers Week is dedicated to ensuring a diverse and well-educated engineering workforce by increasing the understanding of and interest in engineering and technology careers.

Some of our engineers shared their story on why they became an engineer. Check out their responses in the video below. What inspired you?

Design Award for Village of St. John

Exciting news! Architectural Alliance recently received a 2022 Design Award from AIA Delaware for their work on Village of St. John! Congratulations to all, and glad we could provide our MEP services to restore of this beautiful project.

Village of St. John is located at Concord Avenue and Market Street in Wilmington, Delaware and is considered the centerpiece of the Brandywine Historic District. Village of St. John was created to provide health and social services for seniors experiencing poverty. The complex contains 53 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom accessible apartments, administrative offices, and supporting services. The units are contained in the former church additions, deans house, and a new three-story addition. The original Church was repurposed as a community space for the entire housing community.

FIRST Robotics Challenge

FIRST Robotics Lego League Challenge – Over the course of 14 weeks, MEA’s Mike Witkowski, worked with several other parents to coach three robotics teams. It was great experience and lots of fun. This year’s challenge revolved around “Energy” and developing ways to improve energy related fields.

The 4th grade team worked on ways to implement Pavegen (https://www.pavegen.com/) – energy generating tiles to power a Nintendo switch. They had hoped to sell it to the 76ers for their score board, but the 76ers did not return the e-mail. The 6th grade team focused on the electric grid issues in Texas. Who knew that Texas is not connected to the (2) main electric grides that serve the rest of the country? The 8th grade team worked on a Moonlight solar panel. Thank you, Stanford University, for a concept…

On January 21st all three teams competed. They gave it their all and had a great time along the way.  Here is a video of the event: https://6abc.com/moorestown-upper-elementary-school-new-jersey-robotics-competition/12739286/

Please encourage the young children in your life to explore STEM related activities. They are the future.
